Wrist & Hand in Merrillville, Indiana
Wrist and hand injuries from motor vehicle accidents, workplace incidents, and falls can significantly impact daily function and work capacity. Merrillville Injury Care evaluates and treats traumatic wrist and hand injuries for accident and workers’ compensation patients in Northwest Indiana.
Common Wrist and Hand Injuries
Wrist and hand injuries treated at our facility include distal radius fractures (Colles and Smith fractures), scaphoid fractures, carpal tunnel syndrome (traumatic or repetitive), wrist sprains and ligament tears, tendon injuries, de Quervain’s tenosynovitis, and trigger finger. In car accidents, wrist injuries commonly result from gripping the steering wheel at impact or bracing against the dashboard.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Our evaluation includes physical examination, digital X-ray, and MRI coordination for ligament and tendon assessment. EMG/nerve conduction studies are performed when carpal tunnel syndrome or ulnar nerve entrapment is suspected. Treatment ranges from splinting, physical therapy, and corticosteroid injections to surgical intervention including carpal tunnel release, fracture fixation, and tendon repair.
