Work Conditioning Programs in Merrillville, Indiana

Work conditioning programs at Merrillville Injury Care prepare injured workers for a safe, successful return to their job duties. These structured programs simulate the physical demands of the patient’s occupation and progressively build the strength, endurance, and functional capacity needed for full-duty work.

What Is Work Conditioning?

Work conditioning is a structured, goal-oriented rehabilitation program that focuses on restoring the physical capacities required for a specific job. The program is designed around the physical demands of the patient’s occupation — lifting requirements, postural demands, repetitive tasks, and endurance needs. Work conditioning typically follows the completion of standard physical therapy and bridges the gap between clinical rehabilitation and return to full-duty work.

Program Structure

Our work conditioning programs run 2 to 4 hours per day, 3 to 5 days per week, and typically last 2 to 6 weeks depending on the severity of the injury and the physical demands of the job. Programs include progressive strengthening, cardiovascular conditioning, job-specific task simulation, body mechanics training, and injury prevention education. Regular progress reports are provided to the treating physician, employer, case manager, and workers’ compensation carrier.
