Workplace Shoulder Injuries in Merrillville, Indiana

Shoulder injuries sustained at work — whether from a single traumatic event or repetitive overhead activity — can be severely disabling and often require surgical intervention. Merrillville Injury Care provides comprehensive shoulder injury evaluation and treatment for workers’ compensation patients in Northwest Indiana.

Common Workplace Shoulder Injuries

Work-related shoulder injuries treated at our facility include rotator cuff tears (partial and full-thickness), labral tears (SLAP lesions), shoulder impingement syndrome, acromioclavicular (AC) joint separations, shoulder dislocations, biceps tendon tears, and frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis). Workers in construction, manufacturing, warehousing, healthcare, and maintenance occupations are at highest risk.

Diagnosis

Our shoulder evaluation includes physical examination with provocative testing (Neer, Hawkins, empty can, speed’s test), digital X-ray to assess bony anatomy, and MRI coordination to evaluate rotator cuff integrity, labral structures, and other soft tissues. Diagnostic ultrasound may also be used for dynamic assessment of shoulder structures.

Surgical and Non-Surgical Treatment

Conservative treatment for shoulder injuries includes structured physical therapy, corticosteroid injections, PRP therapy, and activity modification. When surgery is required, Dr. Rerri performs arthroscopic shoulder surgery at our onsite surgery center, including rotator cuff repair, labral repair, and subacromial decompression. Post-operative physical therapy is coordinated on-site for optimal recovery and timely return to work.
